Lisa Jo Brown
Being able to spend more time with her family is something that Lisa Jo Brown is blessed with. However, it was not always that way. After graduating from IUP School of Nursing in 1987,Lisa Jo became a Registered Nurse working at a hospital for two years and later moved into middle management. She discovered that this position suited her better and continued there for 12 years. After awhile, she decided it was time for a change. She considered leaving her job, but on her birthday, June 1, 2001, the decision was made for her. She was laid off from her nursing job. She said she would have never left on her own but was later glad it happened. This provided her the opportunity to spend more time with her family and re-evaluate where she was headed. During her lay-off, Lisa Jo enjoyed staying home and being more available to her children. Not too long afterward, she attended a neighbor’s home accessory party sponsored by The Homemaker's Idea Company. The representative was a teacher supporting her a master’s degree with this part-time job. Lisa Jo thought it looked fun and like a great idea for her at that time but was not sure if she could do something like that. She ended up booking a party at her own home and later got more info about being a customer representative and decided to go for the challenge.

Working for The Homemaker's Idea Company has become a part time job allowing her to put her family first. She works mostly out of her home and is able to share with her children what she does, how a business is run, and how money is spent. She even gives them a chance to help her with some of the daily tasks. And most importantly, her kids love having her home after school. She is a wife and mother of five. Her husband, Kevin, is a Cardiac Nurse and her children’s ages are 16, 13, 10, 7 and 18 months. When Lisa Jo tells people about herself and how many children she has, she receives looks of sympathy and sorrow. She does not feel that way at all. Her house is always bustling and each of her children have their own personality. She says, “I look forward to everyday with them because of their individual personality.” When she was in the Nursing field, she missed parts of her kid’s lives that she wanted to be there for. This position as a customer representative has allowed her to not miss things now with her younger children. She is also grateful for the opportunity to be involved in the PTA at her children’s school, Allegheny Hyde Park. She helps her kids out with sports, encouraging them and going to as many games as she can. Sometimes things can get hard to juggle with five kids. She says she does not do any of this because she has to. She has always wanted a big family and is very involved because she wants to be. Lisa Jo finds that she does not miss the things she thought were rewards in Nursing and is happy with this new direction in her life.
