Lead Stories Lewis and Clark and (Bern) Kubiak?
Bern Kubiak is crashing through the woods, lunging over logs and rocks. Sweat is pouring onto his terror-stricken face. The terror is there for good reason; claws and teeth—lots of ‘em—are breathing down his neck. An 800lb grizzly bear is right behind him. Alle-Kiski Businesses Loving Care Began Fifty Years Ago at a Farm
It all started fifty years ago at an Iron Bridge Road farm in Sarver. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brown opened Fair Winds Manor as a nursing and retirement home. They began a tradition of providing “gracious care” that still prevails to this day. In those days nursing homes were places mainly for recovery and recuperation. Nursing homes have undergone many changes over the years, but Fair Winds Manor has never left its roots. The sense of family and personalized care is the same today as when it was a small farm.

A-K Dining True Americana Food at Carney’s in Delmont
Carney’s Corner in Delmont offers true Americana food at prices that are unbelievable. I found this out one evening when my wife and I worked late and wanted to dine at someplace different. After passing Carney’s for years, traveling south on Route 66, I finally took the leap and drove the 15 miles to eat there. It was a cool, breezy night and when we entered I was delighted to find a second dining room with a fireplace. What can better than warming up in front of a fireplace and eating? Needless to say, I was ready to settle in for a good steak dinner.
