Boy Scout Troop 556 began their Charter to bring the Scouting Program to the Youth of Lower Burrell in May of 1998. Three Scouts- Shawn Cochran, Joshua Collins, and Philip Wardoclip were among the first group of those pioneer Scouts to join the newly formed Troop. After 5 years of effort, these young men have earned the coveted Eagle Scout Award. The Eagle Award, a Life Achievement, is the highest distinction earned in the Boy Scouts of America Program. The requirements; to demonstrate a commitment of earning 21 Life Skill and self interest Merit Badges, performing community service, and demonstrating leadership with an Eagle Scout Service Project will take a Scout 4-5 years to complete.
During an Eagle Scout Court of Honor on January 31 in Fisher Hall, Lower Burrell, Shawn Cochran and Joshua Collins were presented their Eagle Scout Award by Troop 556 scoutmaster Robert Schall.
Shawn Cochran, son of Deborah and Lee Cochran of Lower Burrell is the first Eagle Scout from Troop 556, joining the Troop in May of 1998 after completing his requirement with Cub Scout Pack 556, under the direction of Cub master Lee Cochran. His leadership positions included: Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and Troop Guide, and Order of the Arrow Troop Representative. Shawn donated nearly 200 hours of Community Service, earning President Bush.s .President.s Student Service- Gold Award.. He is an Ordeal member of Scouting Service Organization: The Order of the Arrow, and is BSA Junior Leader Trained. Shawn earned over 40 Merit Badges and is AHA CPR certified. Shawn was active in the Troop attending numerous Troop Activities including Tours of the Gettysburg Battle Field, Ontario, Canada, Wright-Patterson AFB, and the Calumet International Camporee. Shawn.s Eagle Service Project was building a fire-ring with wooden benches for the City of Lower Burrell, in Wolf Pack Park. Shawn is a 2003 graduate of Burrell High School and attended the Northern Westmoreland Vocational Technical School. His mechanical and leadership ability will lead him into his life.s career.

Joshua Collins is the grandson of Arlene and the (late) Donald Caldwell of Upper Burrell. Josh was the second Eagle Scout from Troop 556. His Leadership Positions included: Assistant Patrol Leader and Troop Guide and Instructor. Donating over 200 hours of Community Service, Josh earned President Bush.s .President.s Student Service- Gold Award.. He is a Brotherhood member of Scouting Service Organization: The. Order of the Arrow., and is BSA Junior Leader Trained. Josh earned over 40 Merit Badges and is AHA CPR certified. Josh also attended numerous Troop Activities including Tours of the Gettysburg Battle Field; Ontario, Canada; Wright-Patterson AFB, and the Calumet International Camporee. Josh.s Eagle Service Project was conducted for VFW Post 92, mapping the Veterans. grave-sites in a portion of Greenwood Memorial Cemetery. Josh is a 2003 graduate of Burrell High School and is planning to attend Penn State, New Kensington Campus this fall.

Philip Wardoclip is the son of Cecilia and James Wardoclip of New Kensington. He is the 3rd Eagle Scout from Troop 556 in 2003, joining the Troop in May of 1998 after completing his requirements with Cub Scout Pack 312, under the direction of Cub master and Eagle Scout Jim Palumbo. Philip.s leadership positions included Patrol Leader, Assistant Patrol Leader and Chaplain Aide. He donated nearly 250 hours of Community Service, earning President Bush.s .President.s Student Service- Gold Award.. He is a Brotherhood member of Scouting Service Organization: .The Order of the Arrow., and is BSA Junior Leader Trained. He earned over 40 Merit Badges and is AHA CPR and AED certified. Philip attended numerous Troop Activities including Tours of the Gettysburg Battle Field; Ontario, Canada, Wright-Patterson AFB, and the Calumet International Camporee. Philip.s Eagle Service Project was conducted for our local and County Food Banks with a St. Margaret Mary Parish Food Drive and volunteer sessions with the Westmoreland County Food Bank. He is active in his Parish as a volunteer Altar Server and has attended several Catholic Scouting Retreats with the Greensburg Catholic Diocese. Along with his Scouting achievements, Philip has earned two Catholic Scouting Religious Emblem Awards, Parvuli Dei and Ad Altare Dei. Philip is a High Honor.s student and will be a Junior at St. Joseph High School this fall where he is preparing for a science oriented career.
Boy Scout Troop 556, Lower Burrell is chartered to the Veteran.s of Foreign Wars Post 92, and led by Scoutmaster Robert Schall, Committee Chairman Jim Wardoclip, Assistant Scoutmaster Kathy Pitsch, and Committee Members: Gary Heberling, Mark McGaughey, Philip Rehberg, John Volk, and Cecilia Wardoclip.
